Information
Saga Ceramic Research Laboratory is one of public research institutes in Japan that specializes in pottery and ceramics, which is located in Arita, Saga Prefecture, known as the birthplace of Japanese porcelain.
Since its inauguration in October 1928, the center has responded to the needs of the times with the slogan "A technical base for tradition and creativity open to the community," and has been working on research and development of new materials and technologies, technical support through technical consultations and requested testing and analysis, business support, and human resource development for training successors.
Recentry, the shortage of successors in the pottery industry is becoming more serious.
A survey conducted by the Arita Chamber of Commerce and Industry last year reported that the number of businesses in the fields of dough manufacturing, mold manufacturing, and brocade decoration will be halved within the next 10 years, and that the division of labor will no longer be sustainable. In addition, the pottery industry still faces many challenges, such as rising raw material prices and soaring fuel costs.
We will continue to respond to these changes in the world, striving to develop new materials and technologies that can be used by companies in the prefecture, as well as to support companies in various ways, such as technical support and human resource development.
In particular, we will focus on various services, such as research that contributes to reducing CO2 emissions, research in the environmental and energy fields, such as the development of next-generation energy-related materials, promoting research to address the supply crisis of overseas raw materials, supporting commercialization using an app developed by our center, and also providing online technical support and holding seminars.
In addition, in the ceramics human resource development project, we will increase training in dough molding and mold making, which are particularly facing a serious shortage of successors, and work with industry organizations to develop successors so that people with specialized knowledge and skills can be sent to the ceramics industry.
All of our staff will work to respond appropriately to the needs of companies and remain a trusted Ceramics Technology Center.
We ask for your continued support and encouragement.
